Right, after playing with some data - I am starting to understand this scope a little better
Firstly I didn't realise that its orientation is 93deg..... I was runnig off the description and assumin 0deg - so sorry all
I have requested all the NGC 281 runs to be removed- Sorry Pete and Phil!
You may have noticed a few reviews of old favourites in the heart and soul - again Pete and Phil would you mind adjusting the centres on these .. Does anyone wildy object to the scope being used on potboilers like these?
If so you may well really object to an examination of a detail of M42 that I would like to propose - it is just away from the trapezium so one corner will be bright and maybe a little (or a lot) diffraction spiky. But I reckon (with a little Ha in the mix), this picture will be all candy floss pink and blue.....
So if people wildly object to the use of the scope on such a common target I won't put it on - but if not what would the best setting for this be - are 60s broadband and 180s NB subs too short - or would this benefit from some HDR and running some other 30s, 120s, 180s BB subs be beneficial?
I like this myself if I am honest, I like as you well know small interesting sections of larger objects, I see also you will get the wisps in which is cool
maybe a small part of ngc1499 would also be good in narrowband. When I have a moment I may put some "Steve specials" in again

The FOV avoids the Trapezium, but the re is a real high dynamic range in the shot. I just don't want to waste broadband imaging time with poor choices!

Hi Paul,
Good question, but I think one could start with 60s subs to ensure the region close to the trapezium is not over-exposed. Then one could further stretch a second image to increase contrast in the western part. then by adequately blending the two stretches, one might be able to create a balanced image. if this does not work, then I would add 120s subs for the western part and use that stack for the blending. What do you think?
