There are many articles online swaying one way and another but the simple truth is software binning is more versatile with CMOS sensors. Whilst in Spain on the next maintenance trip we will take new darks, bias and flats at 1x1

  • it allows you bin to suit the seeing in post processing
  • less noise

Most processing programs allow you to software bin as part or your routine, so its 100% worth adding this skill to your processing repertoire

Have fun all :) :)

Hi,

This is good news, particularly for galaxies; the 2600 is very sensitive and has hardly any read noise.

Do I understand correctly that we can opt for 1x1 or 2x2 when making the request?

Hi

Sorry, I reread the original post and see that the 2x2 is in post processing.

No worries Earle pleased you spotted it, it just seemed like a more flexible approach for users :)
