I managed to get chance to process the data from Pier 4 today and I am so impressed with the quality of these subs. I used 175 subs at 60s each, which means an integration time of only 2 hours and 55 minutes - and it is a OSC! It made my PC earn its money!

Pier 4 is a ZWO ASI-2066MC Pro OSC with a Sigma 105mm f/1.4 lens stopped to F/2, Astromechanics focuser, guided with a ZWO ASI-120 Mini and ZWO Mini guide scope, Astro Physics AP900 GTo3 mount. The mount actually runs unguided, so the guide scope is in there as a backup.

Thanks everyone and have a good night...

Simon

Out of interest I am having difficulty uploading full resolution jpegs and in particular .pngs, which are my preferred format. I just thought I ought to let someone know. Just hoping it will not affect the viewing of it here.

Hi Simon,

That is one of the best shots of the North American Nebula I've ever seen! 3 hours total integration time catches a lot. The other day I processed just 1 hour from Pier 4 of a different object and was still amazed.

Looking good Simon!

In regards to difficulty uploading a high res image, what is the size of the file? I will look into it.

I will ask phil about image limits and formats on Monday ?

ps this pier runs unguided, its an AP900 so why wouldn’t it ???
so the guider is just a back up lol

Cheers Phil, much appreciated. The size of the .png which would not upload is 46.4MB, and the jpeg, which I had to reduce in resolution, presumably for the same reasons, is 21MB. I have had a number of occasions in the past when uploading was difficult and if I could do it, inserting it into the message was not possible. Hope this helps. Have a good day. Si

Brian, how very kind of you and I could ask for no more as a compliment. I saw your image the other day and was most impressed - knowing the rush I was in, I probably did not get to write anything about it. Will sort it!

Take care now.

Much appreciated Steve, I have made the adjustment in the text with regard to the guiding, so I hope that helps. Have a great day!

Hi Simon,

Amazing image. Pretty well everything good about it has already been mentioned, that's the trouble with being late to the post. Have to agree with Brian that is the best widefield of that region I've seen too. Plenty of narrower ones, so definitely one worthy of submission to magazines. I would however, given your claim to perfectionism, be more impressed by a 4 panel mosaic! So how's it going? :)  Who knows what that might then lead to, an almost complete milky way,  You might need to upgrade your computer though. :(

Hope you are on feeling much better,

Cheers,

Ray

Yes I agree, it really is something. I am gradually processing my way through the data and it is exceptional. All the best Peter! Thanks so much for the comment. Simon  :  )

Cheers Ray for your ongoing fun comments on this forum and your very supportive words. You are a kind man. Actually, I was going to plot the entire universe, so the milky way will just have to wait!  :  )  I have some more data using pier 4 so I am trying to wade through it, if only the smoke from the PC would dissipate - in fact if it did I might see my wife for the first time in 2 days!
