Just joined. Been interested in Astronomy for 20 years but never made much of it. going to make a serious effort now!

Hi Steve, welcome!

I waited for about 22 years. Wish I got going sooner, but on the flip-side, with the hard- and software these days it’s so much more doable then 22 years ago when I started regular photography with regular film. :)
