Hi Paul and welcome,
This could well turn out to be the best time to have joined this syndicate, but I ought to emphasise the word 'could'. As a long suffering member, and being the first and now into the 3rd year, I have everything crossed that on the guvnors next visit he may finally sort everything out and finally flatten that sensor. I believe that he's taking a sledge hammer in place of the club hammer he used last time.
If you've looked at any of the data available to you then you will noticed the star shapes in the corners. I mention this particularly in relation to this topic and the proposed mosaic. With pretty well perfect stars you might just get away with a 10 percent overlap, but I've seen a recommendation to go for at least 15 percent at the declination of the Spaghetti nebula.
As soon as the visit is completed and we have evaluated the stars and determined the camera angle, then might be the time to resubmit this suggestion. I'd have no objections to it having had reasonable results when the scope had a full frame sensor and could be captured in one go. It is a great target and that mosaic would give it some breathing space within the frame.
Great to see that you've put a couple of jobs in already, that will most definitely please the guvnor, who is forever on at us to keep the pier occupied.
Most of this is tongue in cheek, I hope you understand.
Again, welcome to the Syndicate.
Cheers,
Ray
